Article: British Library mislays 9,000 books

As someone who is always looking for misplaced books, I wasn't sure what to think when I saw this article about 9,000 books that are missing from the British Library. I generally lose small stuff. Seems they have misplaced Renaissance treatises on theology and alchemy, a medieval text on astronomy, first editions of 19th- and 20th-century novels, and a luxury edition of Mein Kampf produced in 1939 to celebrate Hitler's 50th birthday.

FYI: Archeologists find rare Maya panels in Guatemala

Archeologists have uncovered carved stucco panels depicting cosmic monsters, gods and serpents in Guatemala's northern jungle that are the oldest known depictions of a famous Mayan creation myth. The newly discovered panels, both 26 feet long and stacked on top of each other, were created around 300 BC and show scenes from the core Mayan mythology, the Popol Vuh. Full article

Exhibition: Dead Sea Scrolls

Many years ago, Elaine Pagels' book, The Gnostic Gospels, made a tremendous impact on me. It grew out of the 1945 discovery of fifty-two papyrus texts, including gospels and other secret documents, that were found concealed in an earthenware jar buried in the Egyptian desert.
